The benefits of joining an Adults Dance Class

You always put your family first; you make sure the family schedule is running smoothly, pack school lunches, tidy the house, throw a daily load of washing on, fill the shopping trolley, get dinner on the table, do school pick up, drive the kids to their after school extracurricular activities … and the list just keeps growing!

I want you to stop, take a look in the mirror and ask yourself, “What have I done for me lately?” Be honest!

If the answer is ‘not much’, perhaps it’s time that you take up an activity just for you!

If you have never danced before or your dance journey stopped when you graduated school, or started a career or to have kids, that’s ok. Here at Dance Kix, we are all about YOU. There is a place for everyone – experienced or beginner! If you need other reasons to justify taking some time out, here’s why dance is so worthwhile!

Dancing, and fitness in general, has so many benefits for us parents! Whether you’re pregnant, just had a baby or are raising school aged kids, getting your body to move is a beautiful thing. Still not sure? Here are some sure fire reasons that Adult Dance classes are beneficial.

Dancing Burns Calories. The most important thing we need to do is to get our bodies to move. We need that cardio. Taking a dance class is a way to get in some exercise without feeling intimidated by those ‘gym junkies’. You’ll break a sweat for sure but without realising you’re working out because you’ll have so much fun doing it!

Mental Wellness. Dance and fitness allows us to not only exercise our bodies, but also our brains. It can help clear your mind and bring you back to focus which is essential for mental and emotional health. During a dance class you must follow the instructor, memorise choreography and make sure your body follows along to the music, all the while sharpening the mind. You simply won’t have time to think about what’s next on your to do list! It’s an hour of thinking about YOU and that’s a good thing.

Strength, Balance and Flexibility. You’ll work muscles you didn’t know you had, and you’ll build muscle memory. So don’t be disappointed if you don’t get the moves down on the first try, your muscles will remember them soon enough. As your body remembers the moves, you’ll also be improving your balance, posture, flexibility and strengthening your bones.   

Meet New Friends. Think of your dance class as another way to meet new adult friends. It’s important to build your tribe and be surrounded by others who enjoy the same things you do.

Boost of Confidence. When participating in a dance class you’ll experience an amazing support system. At Dance Kix we lift our students up and help them when they need it. At the end of a class when you realise you have memorised all the dance moves your confidence sky rockets and you will feel like you can do anything.  

Stress Less. Taking a dance class forces you to take your mind off things outside the studio, things you can’t quite control. Think of the studio as your safety bubble where you can find refuge for an hour to dance it out, stretch it out, laugh it out and more importantly not be stressed out!

Creative Outlet. For those of us who miss being creative or have strayed away from doing things for their own pleasure, joining a dance class can become a creative outlet. In dance, no two people will do a move the same way. Dance is art, an expression of how you feel at any given moment; don’t be afraid to explore it and get those creative juices flowing.

You deserve it. You work hard. You deserve time for yourself and the things you enjoy doing. Do it for you or do it to relate to your kids more. Do it to exercise, or to get to know your body a little more. Whatever you do, grab some friends and spend an hour dancing your heart out.
