About Dance Kix & our team
At Dance Kix we believe that all students deserve the best education possible. Our teachers strive everyday to give students solid foundations in their early dance training, and exciting challenges as they advance their skills.
Our aim is to share the love of dance with the community. In planning our class content we always put a strong emphasis on fun! We include content that develops skills such as memory, strength, agility and flexibility. When it comes to working as a dance group, we like to encourage each member of the group to have a sense of responsibility and belonging, be self-motivated and work as a team.
We limit the number of students in our classes to ensure that everyone receives quality dance instruction and development.
Dance Kix Teachers are selected for having 'special something' about them. They are passionate, and constantly taking steps to improve teaching skills and experience. They are also very approachable and personable to parents and students, and have a genuine love for teaching children & adults.
As a team, we meet regularly for development workshops where we plan our class content to ensure consistency for our students. We also support each other by making class visits, to help with administrative tasks at the beginning and mid way through each term.
Although our class time is precious, please introduce yourself to our friendly teachers as we do enjoy getting to know our 'Dance Kix Family'.
Creative Director & Founder
Helping people find the 'joy' of dance and performance art has always been a driving force behind teaching for Donna.
Dance Kix was formed to provide a place of inspiration and creativity, to feed the soul and nourish the body. Fostering a community of kindness and inclusivity within our dance school is what makes Dance Kix different from the rest, our values stretch beyond the dance floor and set our students up to be balanced, well adjusted and caring humans within our community.
Successful leadership, and ongoing personal development is very important to the success of Dance Kix, and being a member of the Dance Studio Owners Association (inner circle mastermind group) continually helps to keep that fire burning for Donna! This group is comprised of leading dance studio owners from across the globe, who share learnings, advice and meet twice annually for intense training summits. The learnings from this group is openly shared to our 'Dream team' of staff through regular training sessions, coaching and mentoring.
Dance Kix very proud to have been recently accepted into the 'Here for Business' program funded by RioTinto. This program offers business coaching to small local businesses who show potential for growth and development in the Gladstone region, this exciting program aims to build a stringer community for the people of the Gladstone region and sustainability in small local business.
Donna's dance journey .... Always a little groover, Donna started dancing like many of our Dance Kix students - as a Tiny Tot! Quickly her interest in Jazz, Contemporary and Tap took form and her dance journey began.. Competing in numerous eisteddfods and exams under the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) led to teaching and competition choreography for her local dance school in Perth WA.
Although dancing will always be her passion, Music Theatre and the dream of being on the big stage became a major focus. In 2005 Donna completed a Bachelor of Arts in Drama, whilst teaching Drama for a well known Children’s Drama Academy in Perth. After many many vocal lessons, auditions & amateur theatre performances in WA & the U.K, she was accepted into the Music Theatre program at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), and rubbed shoulders with a few famous Australian actors! Donna also has experience in choreographing for musical productions, 2017 saw her on the production team for GECC's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in 2017.
In addition to running Dance Kix, Donna has two boisterous sons Levi & Rix who keep her on her toes and a supportive husband.
Customer Service Coordinator & Senior Teacher
Shauna's journey with Dance Kix started in May 2016, as a teacher, and before long she established herself as a strong part of our team. Shauna has a special ability to connect with students and warm them into class if they are feeling anxious or shy, it's one of her super powers!
After assisting in the office and learning the ropes, Shauna became our Customer Service Coordinator in October 2017. Shauna has a great understanding of our dance school, and as a parent herself she understands the need to have the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback to us. Throughout each term Shauna rotates around to our studio’s in Gladstone and Boyne/Tannum as a contact point for parents and to welcome new students to class and support teachers as needed. Our ‘pop-up shop’ service is run by Shauna too, providing a service to correctly fit dance shoes and make other merchandise available to you.
Shauna's dance journey..... Shauna’s love for dance started at a very young age, in a town called East Kilbride, just outside Glasgow in Scotland. There she studied Classical ballet, Tap and Modern Stage. At age 13, Shauna landed a role in the Nutcracker Suite with the touring company of the London Contemporary Ballet. To add to her accolades, Shauna also danced with Brian Rogers (a well known Choreographer) and Robina Bonsu from the Scottish Ballet. Before leaving Scotland, Shauna qualified as a Tap and Modern Stage Dance Teacher with the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA).
Upon reaching the sunny shores of Australia, Shauna began teaching with the Arafura Dance Association in the Northern Territory, before taking a break from teaching to raise her beautiful children Jimmy & Roxy. In addition to her teaching skills, Shauna’s sense of humour and positive outlook are attributes that we love about her!
You only need to meet Tracey to understand why she is on our team, her infectious smile, positivity and love for dance is written all over her! Tracey has a long history with dance, starting at a very tender age and has experience in many styles of dance - with tap being her favourite! At Dance Kix, Tracey teaches Jazz, Ballet and Tap, and we feel lucky to have such a well rounded teacher on our team.
As a prep teacher at Benaraby School, Tracey's kind and warm nature creates a beautiful connection with her dance students, and her creative choreography keeps them on their toes!
Tracey has a keen interest in Irish dancing, singing and is a regular cast member of local theatre productions.
Taylor first joined Dance Kix as a student, and instantly she displayed the core values that we look for in a team member. Taylor was generous of spirit and of course inspired by dance!
Taylor joined our faculty in October 2017, we were so impressed with her attention to detail, preparation for class content and professional manner with parents that we quickly offered Taylor additional teaching hours! Taylor’s students enjoy learning dance, through her creative and gentle teaching style, and we think she is the perfect addition to our team.
Taylor also enjoys participating in local community musicals and is studying occupational therapy at University.
After Dancing as a child, Helena discovered the love of dance and learned first hand how dance lessons can act as a conduit for supporting and igniting the development of natural movement. Helena has a career in education and is a Grade 1 teacher at Calliope State School, so not only do we love that Helena has a passion for dance, we also love that she brings a wealth of experience in encouraging and empowering children with knowledge and understanding.
Helena's nurturing and engaging style of teaching, is perfect for our preschool program and Boys Hip Hop!
"Childhood is a magical period of our lives where we are in possession of the innate ability to move, express and create, I love that I can be a part of that journey" - Helena Little
Helena has a positive outlook, and a vibrant personality to match! Our students love her and we love having Helena as a teacher at Dance Kix.
